Erlin and Gyorko Milestones

San Diego Padres

Our Padres enjoyed a terrific win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, June 1, 2013. It was a beautiful evening (67 degrees) – the stands were full (40,403) … and more Padres fans than Jays fans … perhaps due to the replica jersey give-away.

Padres 4 and Blue Jays 3.  Yes, the same score as the previous night but in less than half the time (2:21) and nearly half the innings!

Robbie Erlin

Robbie Erlin became the first Padre pitcher this season to win his first career start and the first since Casey Kelly on August 27 of last season to accomplish that feat.  In addition, he did not issue a walk in his big league starting debut, becoming the first Padre since A.J. Sager on May 9, 1994 vs. CIN to not walk a single batter in their first Major League start (min. 6.0 IP). CONGRATS to Robbie!

Jedd Gyorko

Jedd Gyorko has now recorded a hit in 38 of his first 51 career games, the most by a Padres rookie in franchise history at this stage of their career (Tony Gwynn in 1982 and Roberto Alomar in 1988 each had a hit in 37 of their first 51 games). CONGRATS to Jedd!

Also notable, Luke Gregerson earned his first save of the 2013 campaign and his first since closing out the final game of the 2012 season on October 3 at MIL. He is the first Padre not named Huston Street to earn a save in 2013.

With this win the Padres have the series but a clean sweep would provide great momentum as they head to Dodger territory on Monday.

Go Padres!
