Larry Stahl is an outfielder who began his major league career in 1964 with the Kansas City City A’s. He played there for parts of 3 seasons before being selected off of waivers on October 14, 1966 by the New York Mets. He spent the next 2 seasons playing part time for the Mets covering all 3 outfield spots as well as first base. Two years later to the day he was acquired by the A’s, he was selected by the San Diego Padres with the 26th pick in the Expansion Draft. In 1971, he enjoyed his best season playing for the Padres hitting .253 with 8 Home Runs and 36 RBI’s. Larry finished his career in 1973 with the Cincinnati Reds.

Larry Stahl – Hitting the longest home run at Kansas City in 1965.
Padres360 – What path did you take after your major league career?
Larry Stahl – I worked for the Peabody Coal Company and I am currently retired.
Padres360 – Who was your favorite Padres player when you were with the team?
Larry Stahl – Cito Gaston
It is interesting to note that several players we have written have named Cito Gaston as their favorite Padres player when they were on the team. It might explain why Cito later became a great manager as he seemed to develop long lasting relationships with teammates.
