The Famous Chicken, by Gene Locklear

In our last part of our Gene Locklear interview, we reached out to some of his former teammates for questions they would be interested in having Gene answer.  Some ended up just being comments while some had a little bit more depth to them.

With Dave Freisleben‘s question, Gene does in depth about hitting and talks about 2 now former Padres and his impression about their hitting approach.

We spent some time chatting about some additional former teammates who had comments and questions for The Chief.  Do any of these players names ring a bell?

While walking though Gene’s house, we were enjoyed seeing his artwork – it is incredible, pictures can’t do it justice.  Gene has had painting on display in the White House and currently on display in the Pentagon.  He has painted sports figures like The Famous Chicken, Tony Gwynn as well as landscapes from different places in the United States.  With the Padres getting ready to open their Hall of Fame for the in 2016, they would be wise to reach out to The Chief for some of his baseball artwork as it is more than worthy of being on display in the Hall of Fame. On Saturday, January 16th, Rebecca and I spent the day wine tasting in Ramona with Gene and his lovely wife Susan.  During the day, we talked about art, baseball, wine, and the beauty of Ramona .  Gene is a great guy with every bit of the humor that Randy Jones has and his wife is a wonderful woman with a kind and loving heart.  We look forward to more adventures with them in the future.  To quote former Detroit Tigers pitcher, Barney Mussill, “Baseball Friends Are Forever,”  and while this story ends, the friendship continues.
