Fastball John: A Grand Slam Novel

To finish off the baseball season, Rebecca and I took a trip to Atlanta, GA to see the last Major League game played at Turner Field.  For that trip, I decided to bring my copy of John D’Acquisto’s book, “Fastball John.”  I had purchased the book on September 24 at The Pennant in Mission Beach and started to thumb through the book days before our trip.

As our plane took off, I opened up the book and couldn’t put it down.  Over the course of the 3 days of our trip, I was drawn to the book and found myself reading chapter after chapter.  By the time we had returned to San Diego, I had read over 400 of the 560 pages and just had to finish it off that day.  It was hard to put down because there was never a dull moment.

“Fastball John” is an autobiography of a man’s life inside and outside of baseball.  From John D’Acquisto’s journey through the Minor Leagues to his being called up to the Majors, we see what the baseball life is like … the good and the bad.  He shares stories of managers who had his back to others who stabbed him in the back. John pulls no punches in telling readers his baseball journey.  While there were agents with agendas and GM’s who played games with players’ lives, John was playing the game and trying to be the best he could be on and off the field.

One of the things that I loved about the book is every time John wrote about his interaction with Randy Jones, I could hear Randy’s voice in my head saying the words John wrote down! That really made me smile.

We encourage all baseball fans to read this fantastic book about our friend, John.  If you are interested in a copy of this book, you can click on this link and buy a copy Buy Fastball John or you can contact John on Facebook or on Twitter at @fastballjohnd.
